Good copywriting has been shown to be an effective tool in promoting products through mailings or other methods to reach targeted customers and clients.

Here are some important points to cover when you are writing to promote products and services in order to increase sales and name recognition:

1.) Open with a strong "hook" to get the buyer or client's attention. Write a strong headline and opening sentence to propel the reader's interest through the details of your writing copy. See if your opening sentence, by itself, could tell the main idea. In the first paragraph, cover the who, what, when, where, how, and why of what you are promoting.

2.) Use expert quotes or testimonials in your copywriting. Strong, positive quotes drive your copy and nail the main points your are making in the promotion. You can use direct quotes that you got in your personal interview in-person or on the phone. It is wise to get permission to use direct quotes. You can also use indirect quotes that you get from a written or spoken source hat were not directly made to you.

3.) Stay on-topic. Present your copywriting information so that it is relevant to what a potential customer needs or wants. Make your promotion satisfy a buyers needs or wants, but make sure your information is accurate. You can be genuinely persuasive without being deceptive or misleading.

4.) Use a newsy style and tone and use correct grammar and sentence construction. This is essential for credibility. Writing errors can damage your credibility even if you have the best product on the face of the earth. Keep your copy to three or four sentences to a paragraph for readability.

5) Provide clear, easy-to-find contact information: contact persons, address, phone numbers, Fax numbers, emails, etc. Repeat information about how your potential customer can make that purchase.

6) Present your copywriting content in an attractive, easy-to-read font and type size. Break up the text into bullets or numbered lists for speed and ease of reading. Make effective of italics and bold fonts. Add pictures, illistrations, graphs, or diagrams only if they add to the promotion of your product or service.

Businesses and the consumer public receive many mailings so it is important to get your copywriting noticed, seen as relevant, and, ultimately, have your copy result in a sale.

Review your copy from time to time to ensure timeliness and to customize it for specific segments of your target audience. You will find that if you employ these techniques in your copywriting, you will see a positive return on your efforts.
